OUR STORY

The Cozy has always been more than a bar. For decades, it was a true neighborhood staple, a gritty, beloved dive bar that held a special place in Brighton’s history and in the hearts of the people who walked through its doors.

Under the ownership of Ken “Kenny” and Sally Everett, The Cozy became known for exactly what made old-school bars special: authenticity. It was unapologetically grungy, full of character, and a place where regulars felt like family. With a pool table, dartboards, cold drinks, and stories shared over the bar top, The Cozy had a personality all its own. Kenny was often right there, sitting at the bar, welcoming familiar faces and becoming part of what made the place feel like home. He and Sally didn’t just own The Cozy, they held it down. Alongside raising their family and living next door, they built something that became part of this community’s fabric.  For many locals, The Cozy wasn’t just somewhere to stop in, it was their bar.

In 2017, the Corrigan family took ownership of The Cozy with a deep understanding of what it had meant to this community for so many years. The goal was never to erase its past, but to thoughtfully invest in its future.

Over time, The Cozy evolved. Renovations helped bring new life into the building while preserving the spirit that made it so loved. What was once a rough-around-the-edges dive bar began transforming into something bigger, while still keeping its neighborhood soul.

One of the biggest changes came in 2022, when the house next door, once owned by the Everett family, was removed to make way for what is now the Cozy Grass Lot. What had once been part of the Everett family’s home became a beautiful extension of The Cozy itself, now used for community events, live music, gatherings, and additional parking. It remains a meaningful piece of the property, carrying history while creating space for new memories.

Today, The Cozy is a blend of old and new, rooted in grit, community, and tradition, but built for what comes next. From live music and major events to game days, celebrations, and everyday regulars at the bar, The Cozy continues to be what it has always been at its core: a place where people come together.

We’re proud to honor the legacy Kenny and Sally Everett built, grateful for the continued vision and investment of the Corrigan family, and thankful for every regular, guest, employee, and friend who continues to make The Cozy what it is today.  Because while The Cozy may have changed over the years, its heart never did.
